Time to get down-to-earth
Let the Labour Party get back to its roots and demand the collection of all land rent for public benefit.
Less than 1 per cent of the people own 70 per cent of UK land. We don’t even know the owners of almost half of it. Isn’t that incredible in a so-called democracy?
The concentrated ownership of the most valuable land in few hands, almost free of tax, is the main source of inequality of wealth.
An annual land value tax, unavoidable even with the aid of top tax experts, would break up this monopoly and provide all the land we need for good new social housing at minimal cost.
